Dan Ventrelle claims Raiders fired him in retaliation

Raiders team president Dan Ventrelle left the organization less than a year after taking the job.

Owner Mark Davis announced in a statement Friday that Ventrelle “is no longer with the Raiders organization,” but didn’t reveal details about the decision.

Ventrelle said in a statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he was fired in retaliation for raising concerns about a “hostile work environment” from multiple employees at the NFL.

“When confronted with these issues, Mark was dismissive and did not show the level of concern that was warranted,” Ventrelle said in the statement. “With that in mind, I have notified the NFL of these issues and Mark’s unacceptable response. I was released shortly thereafter in retaliation for raising these concerns. I stand by my decision to address these issues to protect the organization and its women employees.”

The Raiders had no comment on the statement.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said league officials “have recently become aware of these allegations and take them very seriously. We will investigate the matter immediately.”

Ventrelle took over as interim team president last July after Marc Badain resigned. Ventrelle was promoted to full-time in January.

Ventrelle and Badain played key roles in the Raiders’ move from Oakland, Calif. to Las Vegas, but both left before the team begins its third season in Nevada.

Ventrelle is the latest in a line of senior executives to leave the team over the past year. CFO Ed Villanueva and controller Araxie Grant left Badain over the summer in an issue Davis later described as “accounting irregularities.”

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Thursday that Jeremy Aguero, chief operations and analytics officer, resigned after seven months.

Head coach Jon Gruden resigned last October after releasing offensive emails before taking the job, and general manager Mike Mayock was fired after the season.
