Legendary football coach Clemson’s brother, Dabo Swinney, was recently arrested for child pornography.
The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office announced Thursday that Henry Ervil Swinney III was arrested along with two other men on April 23 in an investigation into child sexual exploitation. Swinney is accused of disseminating child sexual abuse material and has been charged with sexually exploiting a minor.
Authorities were informed after a call from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children prompted an investigation. Henry Swinney is said to have shared and distributed the material via a “mega” file-sharing link, according to his arrest warrant.
When Henry Swinney was charged with aggravated stalking in 2016, the Clemson coach convicted his brother after the arrest.
“Your actions have consequences. If you don’t do the right things, you suffer the consequences. I am no different from anyone else, my family is no different from anyone else. I think the only sad thing is that it’s a story because he’s my brother. You know, if I were Joe Schmoe, you don’t ask me that question,” Dabo Swinney said, per WYFF.
“But he’s almost 50 years old and one thing I learned a long time ago is that you can’t change people. People must want to change and do the right things. Unfortunately, he has a long history of not doing the right things.
“But I love him, he’s my brother. I can’t help it and I’ve done everything I can to be a good brother and to help him, but this is his life and these are choices he made.”
Dabo Swinney has been the Tigers’ head coach since 2008. During his tenure to date, he has guided Clemson to national championships in 2017 and 2019. Dabo Swinney is behind only Frank Howard for most wins by a head coach in school history.
Clemson and Dabo Swinney have spoken publicly about Henry Swinney’s recent arrest.
